Interesting when they say that they might try at a later time to join as a stand-alone club or as part of a joint venture. I wonder if any Sydney clubs may try that? Marconi White Eagles or Bankstown City Spartans :friends: lol

Bonnyrigg Croatia

Just for clarification, who are the Spartans in the potential Bankstown City merger?

Blacktown Spartans?

Why would they merge with a Bankstown Club? Anyway they are really the Blacktown Association's club with a very small support base.

Might as well make it

Bonnyrigg Croatia Stallions

Or

Mounties Bonnyrigg Croatia Stallions

:D

They can't get any worse than Mackay & Whitsunday Magpies Crusaders United.

All I kept thinking is a Magpie dressed in some sort of Roman Gladiator outfits when I see that name.

Queensland based club Olympic FC tweeted that they've expressed their interest in the NSD:

I was waiting for coffee the other day and in the paper read how they are finally looking at the cost of SAP and youth league, I find it comical then they are doing it now… I suspect what will come out is the ffa ‘discover’ what every person already know kids are funding first team players…

I’m not sure how if they choose to attack this now it’s helping npl clubs funding models when they will need them more ever.

Didn't Mounties at one point own Marconi like 20 years ago when the club went bust during NSL? Don't they still Mounties Stallions could be a reality hahaha.

Gerard Butler and his mates

I thought maybe the two areas with the names town at the end can join forces

Optus Sport made a post on which clubs have expressed interest in the NSD:

May be an image of ‎2 people and ‎text that says "‎National 2nd Division Aspirational clubs who have submitted Expressions of Interest Victoria 市 OPTUS SPORT A BrunswickJuventus Avondale FC Bentleigh Greens Heidelberg United Melbourne Knights Preston Lions South Melbourne New South Wales APIA Leichhardt Marconi Stallions Rockdale Ilinden Sydney Olympic Sydney United Wollongong Wolves : 悪 Queensland Brisbane United Brisbane City Gold Coast United Gold Coast Knights Peninsula Power Sunshine Coast AUSTRALIA vic Australian Capital Territory Canberra Croatia Gungahlin United I&D ROUP PT South Australia 閣 Adelaide City Tasmania SouthHobart South Hobart BIN 19 ono ۔ Austra an Foa‎"‎‎

Pretty sure some are missing like Queensland based club Olympic FC expressed interest. None from Western Ausrtralia is a bit disappointing. However, when you take in consideration the travel expenses to away games, you can understand why none have shown interest.

Wonder if Optus are in talks about the NSD and having it on their platform? Take the NSD for cheap to extend their content and then take the AL when the deal is up, would prob be better on Optus than Paramount anyways

Its a pretty strong list. From NSW because I know more abut them I am a bit iffy on Apia because of the limited fanbase they have and Sydney Olympic because of the big money problem they currently have. Marconi is dependent on how much Mounties decides to spend but if they do mate Marconi is going to be a true powerhouse with Mounty Wanderers also opting as a feeder club. King Tom is similar they have the sponsors so I wander how much more money they can raise to make it sustainable and professional.

Brother in law intel on the Queensland clubs is that they have fantastic youth systems and have plenty of money to spend all the clubs that submitted EOI are strong. Will certainly rival the Roar and perhaps surpass the Roar the way the Backries have run them. The big elephant in the room is no North Queensland club submitted an EOI (looking at the old NQ Fury) which confirms there is not enough money or support in Northern Queensland for a football club, still its a heavy presence.

The big question from that list who do you go with? Even with me crossing out some and my limited knowledge out of state I still have like 20/23 clubs to consider for a 12-16 team competition.

Yeah 100% if they do they could become one of the biggest clubs in the comp,

Seeing as some of these teams have a lot of the infrastructure in place already, in a few years and some good seasons in the NSD they could over take some of the AL clubs in terms of money they could be making.

SA has come interesting extras in play there. Valentine FC came out of left field and WA bid is big one too. Two clubs merging together to make the bid, however I don't think any of these teams make the initial cut.

The first iterations will be heavy NSW, VIC and Queensland presence. I would be shocked if no team from Canberra makes it I think they would be guaranteed one spot just on travel expenses alone. From what I heard both teams are quiet strong. I fully expect Adelaide City to make the cut, and I wander if NSD make South Hobart a spot as well or wait a little longer when the league is bigger for that one. Surely there is enough there to initially start with a 12 team comp possibly 14

I am happy blacktown city put in a bid

Whilst Blacktown have been at the forefront of NSW NPL over the past 25 years or so at Senior and Junior level, their ability to draw decent crowds is woeful.

I think they should to with the approach the more the merrier as long as they all pass the criteria for the NSD, we could have 16 teams off the bat.

We should get 6 to 7 teams from NSW alone, another 5 to 6 from VIC, maybe 3 from QLD, 1 from ACT, 1 from SA.

If you could get get a 30 game comp off the bat - that would be massive.

It could come down to expenses though that could limit the numbers, and I wander if a broadcast deal may be the difference between a 10 team comp or a 16 team comp. If A-league is at $32 million a season you would NSL would be around the $10-20 million mark. Low risk from broadcaster point of view to test the interest. So much to know and the next step doesn't start until June when the shortlist is finalised.
