Football in this country can be quite taxing to the soul. You would imagine if they play to start for next season this would be sorted by now… 12 months out doesn’t leave a lot of time. I suspect the delay in Perth Glory sale is a factor perhaps potential bidders have done their due diligence and baulked at the price and this sends ripples to others. 25 million price was floated in this article https://amp.abc.net.au/article/102639276 it’s all gone pretty quiet 🤫 over there about this not much news which leads me to believe they are struggling to get the price they want. And still nothing on jets also… This isn’t good for the league at all. the last article for the new owners for Perth had at least 12 bidders by close dat 25 August for Perth. I think it was behind a pay wall, by the Catania guy and Nick tana both submitted a bid, the other are unknown to me. So I am guessing they are going through due process. Plus state government additional funding so I wouldn't worry too much about Perth I reckon it will be a slow process however.
Sithslayer1991 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 OK latest updated is behind a paywall for expansion clubs but essentially Auckland is ready to be announced and would have been announced already but APL are still finalising Canberra. The rumour is we receive official announcement about Auckland in the next week. Latest from the Canberra bid: From the Canberra Times https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/8379790/canberras-a-league-plans-missed-two-deadlines-but-apl-say-it-is-well-advanced/ The Australian Professional Leagues says it is on track to add Canberra as an expansion team despite missing the previous two deadlines to announce plans. The APL published its annual report on Monday and is confident the game can capitalise on international momentum after the Socceroos' success last year and the Matildas' record-breaking World Cup run this year. It announced its plan to expand the A-League Men's competition in March, but details have been scarce since declaring Canberra and Auckland as the preferred expansion locations. APL boss Danny Townsend had hoped to finalise details by June 30, but the process was delayed and the organisation set the end of September as its new timeline for finding someone to take on the $25 million licence. Townsend wanted to announce plans before the start of the ALM season next week to give the new franchises more than 12 months to prepare for their inaugural campaigns. "[The] APL is focused on expanding the number of clubs across Australia and New Zealand in order to maximise engagement with football fans, provide increased professional football pathways and optimise commercial opportunities," the report says. "APL announced in March its intention to expand the A-Leagues further with new expansion clubs planned for Canberra and Auckland (incorporating both men's and women's programs) growing both leagues to 14 teams. "The process for the Canberra and Auckland expansions is well-advanced with strong interest from investors. An extensive due diligence and consultation program has been undertaken in both markets. "Local football organisations, governments and potential investors have been core to this consultation. It is expected that teams 13 and 14 will enter the A-Leagues in season 2024/2025. "In the longer term, early assessments are being undertaken of geographical markets for the addition of teams 15 and 16 into the A-Leagues."
Davo Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 Saw this posted on an NPL account. Marconi are notifying their members of their intent to get a 500k bank guarantee as part of the National Second Division application. My favourite part is the quote at the end: “Football Australia has advised that the information provided to the members of Club Marconi is considered Confidential Information as part of the Football Australia NSD Application Process. Disclosure of this information in any manner may jeopardise the Club’s involvement in the process. We therefore reiterate the importance of keeping this information completely confidential as a valued member of the Club.” So straight to Facebook… SBW, Sithslayer1991, GunnerWanderer and 4 others 7

Stokz Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 This is probably a decent start for a comp to be launched soon. You would expect additions in the following 1-2 seasons - Adelaide City, Melb Knights, Brisbane Strikers/City, canberra team
SBW Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 My surprise was that both Adelaide CIty and Melbourne Knights weren't included or didn't submit, are they holding back with a wait and see approach?

Knights didnt pay the $500k BG, i think only 5 clubs did. The only criteria looked at was financial stability etc.

SBW Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 Fair enough. But the financial stability was issue with the old NSL. Clubs were losing money or had no money. I believe the FA are wary of making sure the NSD doesn't turn into an NSL mk II where history repeats itself.

Preston I seriously doubt it Sunshine Coast APIA Avondale Olympic Based on nothing other than gut feel coupled with a bit of personal bias 😜 I reckon: Sth Melb could be ready to roll tomorrow if need be; and Marconi should have good enough credit. Sydney Olympic will find the money somehow, probably from long term benefactors; I would hope that Wollongong and APIA get it together - and Sth Hobart should be feel good project and get a helping hand. Sydney Utd shiuld get in, but would make me a little nervous regarding 'negative' headlines - serious viability concerns for the rest.
JustWandering Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 (edited) 14 A League teams plus 10 NSD teams = 24. Perfect number for a league cup. Edit. Excuse my math. 16 or 32 would be perfect....... Well, perfect number for league cup with group stage then. Edited November 2, 2023 by JustWandering

I've seen this doing the rounds and people have been posting other clauses that clarify it. Apparently this only applies to new clubs going straight into the NSD, basically saying that since they didn't go through the pyramid to get there they don't automatically go into the top FQPL division if they're relegated from the NSD. I guess the worry is a new club with wealthy backing could find a way into the NSD, immediately get relegated, then have shortcut the process and go straight to the top of the Qld pyramid. Sounds like if an existing club goes from the top of FQPL into the NSD and is then relegated they would go back to the top of FQPL. No idea where any of it is coming from as I haven't seen the whole document, just screenshots (or in this case photos of screens) of individual clauses. StringerBellend 1

Big picture is that the NSD will be the filter mechanism to see which clubs (former NSL or new clubs) are able to cope with the model - and will hopefully, eventually be the missing link between the NPL and A-L.
mack Posted November 3, 2023 Author Posted November 3, 2023 1 hour ago, Davo said: Apparently this only applies to new clubs going straight into the NSD, Not every club in QLD applying to the NSD is currently an NPL club. Sunshine Coast aren't, they're a QPL team, which means if they happened to get relegated after joining the NSD, they'd be kicked back all the way to the 6th tier of the regional league, which would be the 9th tier in total (AL, NSD, NPL1, then FQPL 1 through to 6).
JustWandering Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 It's petty for state leagues to be making rules before a promotion relegation pathway has even been created. It may well be that there is only promotion from the non/semi-professional state leagues to the professional national league. As the number of promoted teams swell, the NSD could be split into a NTD, NFD and so on.
