MathyouWSW Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 ***Warning: Bossi post*** https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/former-socceroos-captain-signs-marquee-deal-with-macarthur-20200730-p55h1g.html Former Socceroos captain signs marquee deal with Macarthur Their inaugural derby match is yet to be played, but Macarthur FC have already claimed a big win over their soon-to-be rivals, beating Western Sydney Wanderers to the signature of former Socceroos captain Mark Milligan. The 34-year-old, who was released from English League One club Southend United last month, has inked a one-year deal with a view of moving into coaching. Sources close to the player suggest the 80-time Australian international turned down offers from the Wanderers and clubs in England in favour of the A-League expansion club, with his close relationship with Macarthur coach Ante Milicic and the possibility of a future coaching role the decisive factors in his decision. Despite retiring from international football in December last year, Milligan told the Herald last month he had no intention to hang up his boots any time soon but was already looking to transition into coaching after his playing career. Milligan's move to Macarthur ends his near three-year absence from the A-League, having left Melbourne Victory in 2018 for spells with Saudi club Al Ahli, Hibernian in Scotland and Southend. Milligan has won two A-League titles, lifting the trophy with Sydney FC in 2006 and Victory in 2015. He was part of the Socceroos squad for the successful 2015 Asian Cup campaign and was included in the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cup squads. The defensive midfielder will become the fourth signing announced by the club, joining Olyroo Denis Genreau, Socceroos Tommy Oar and Adam Federici at Campbelltown. Federici was announced as a Macarthur player on Thursday, ending a spell of more than 17 years in England and Italy to sign a two-year deal with the Bulls. The 35-year-old goalkeeper played 31 games in the English Premier League with Bournemouth and Reading, having also enjoyed stints with Stoke and Southend. "Adam’s knowledge and experience in the top European leagues will be invaluable to our squad. The opportunity to strengthen our roster with someone of Adam’s ability and professionalism doesn’t come around often,” Milicic said. The 16-time Socceroo has never played a professional club football match in Australia, having left for Europe as a teenager in 2003. The Nowra native decided to end his time abroad to play for the closest club to where he grew up. “Football has provided me with many fantastic opportunities around the world. To be able to come back to Australia and play football, not only at a start-up club, but also only 90 minutes from where I grew up is something I could not pass on," Federici said. “The Macarthur region has always had a strong football following and I’m looking forward to seeing the passion from our fans in our debut season." Macarthur will make their A-League debut when the new season begins in December.

papersun Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Some interesting rumours re possible signings, Englishman Matt Derbyshire and Aussie Miloslav Popovic who Milicic has seen a bit of from the Olyroos in the past. Australian striker Milislav Popovic has been linked with a move to A-League newcomers Macarthur FC. Updated Updated 10 hours ago By John Davidson Share Popovic, a former Olyroo, is off-contract after leaving Austrian second division side SV Lafnitz. The World Game understands the 23-year-old is currently in Australia finalising a deal with Macarthur. Popovic grew up in Liverpool, in Sydney’s south-west, and played for Marconi and Blacktown City as a youngster. The 1.9 metre-tall forward moved overseas at the age of 16 and signed with Italian giants Lazio. Popovic spent two years with I Biancocelesti before moving to German club Havelse in 2015. He also made four appearances for Australia’s Under-23s between 2017 and 2018, when the Olyroos were coached by Bulls boss Ante Milicic. Popovic tore his ACL early last year after joining SV Lafnitz from Eintracht Braunschweig. He made his return to the field in November in a 2-0 loss to SC Austria Lustenau. Macarthur have been busy in the transfer market, signing former Socceroos Mark Milligan, Adam Federici and Tommy Oar, as well as Olyroos winger Denis Genreau. The new A-League outfit have also been linked with a move for English striker Matt Derbyshire, according to reports in the UK. Macarthur have been approached for comment at the time of writing.
MathyouWSW Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Not sure if you can add this guy as a rumour for Macarthur FC.
alexd Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 You can probably add any/all CCM players to the potential list

Flytox Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Macarthur FC Head Coach Ante Milicic continues to expand his inaugural team with the signing of 23-year old Liverpool local and former Olyroos centre forward Milislav Popovic. Popovic, returns to home, following stints in Italy, Germany, and Austria, most notably with FC Cologne in the Bundesliga and German second tier side Eintracht Braunschweig. Identified as a special talent from a young age, Popovic played in several local junior representative sides, including with club association partner, Southern Districts Metro team, before going onto Marconi Stallions and Blacktown Demons. The six foot two, centre-forward, is no stranger to Milicic’s playing style, featuring in his Olyroos squad during their AFC u/23 Championship campaign in 2018. Earning eight caps for the Olyroos and finding the back of the net on two occasions, Popovic is set to make his A-League debut just 30 minutes from where he first played as a junior. Macarthur FC Head Coach Ante Milicic, was impressed by the youngster’s natural talent and strength. “I have closely followed Milislav’s career over the last couple of years since he impressed me during the 2018 Asian Cup campaign. In Milislav, the fans can expect a big, strong, technical player with the ability to create and score goals. “Having returned to Australia, I am hoping we can provide him the opportunity to kick start his career and realise his full potential.” Milicic added. Popovic, who this season, will play his first professional football in front of family and friends was excited about the opportunity. “The opportunity to represent my local area on the national stage is a great honour for me. I know my family and friends will be supporting us at every match at Campbelltown Stadium. “Having played under Ante previously with the Olyroos, I know he will have a very clear style of how he would like the team to play, and to be under his guidance again is something I’m really looking forward to.” Popovic said. “Growing up in Liverpool, I know we have extremely passionate football fans in the area and I’m looking forward to seeing them all come together to support the new club.” Popovic added. https://www.macarthurfc.com.au/news/liverpool-local-milislav-popovic-signs-macarthur-fc?fbclid=IwAR2IgbumPm2dJQLCSwkPibx_rf67JfcFomFkf2ANoRmisnq1uaAj1eML978

mack Posted August 28, 2020 Author Posted August 28, 2020 Type of player we should be signing. A very tall striker who isn't a foreign player, who is young and comes from Western Sydney. Even if all you end up using him for is a Matt Simon role off the bench in the last 10 minutes, that's still something that can be valuable to a team. At the very least he would provide a difference from the cavalcade of short, slow, old, slow and old or short and slow players.
Carns Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Milicic is building a decent A-league squad so far (considering the uncertainty around cap etc). THEWANDERERSPOST, EmMac and Unlimited 3

In the same vein, maybe we could look at Anthony Carter, playing in the second level in Portugal, no idea about him ability wise, but on a cheap one year deal maybe worth a shout. mack 1
Sithslayer1991 Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 COVID seems to have helped this club with recruitment. Looks like they have a bit of money in the bank go spend. They will be stronger than us next season no doubt.

jockman Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Stating the bleeding obvious...we knew the bull$hitters were coming last year and would pose a threat to us on and off the field..covid or no covid..If as a number of folks believe they are shaping up at least on paper to be a decent team. And we look at this stage are most likely looking at another average to poor season.. If it turns out this way ... covid some impact and uncertainty around tv rights etc sure yes. But the club cannot hide behind these issues. We were a shambles way before this. the club management still need to be held to account . As said several times already..are they really ok to be the third best team in sydney... sonar and alexd 2
