Smoggy Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Wonder how Gombau will play the derby Arnie game. Arnie had it over Popa on and off the pitch much of the time and will be interesting to see how Gombau squares up in comparison. sonar, SomeGuy1977 and wendybr 3

I think the new stadium is gonna turn that around because it is going to be a place you go to almost every second week, it will be the talking point for the area, I think the RBB is gonna be huge once they get that terrace Neverbloom, Smoggy, wendybr and 1 other 4
wasp Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 A very good choice I feel he does fit our club culture, passion and the way the team plays. Looking forward to the next home game. Bienvenido a Wanderers JackDoff, wendybr, DinoPresinger and 2 others 5

We've only ever known one manager (forget ginger) and at times our style has been frustrating. I too am very much looking forward to seeing what direction Gombau takes us style wise. xxBrandonxx Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Lmao at people who are expecting immediate results. I don’t see much changing this season tbh in terms of playing style, after a certain idea has been belted into your head since day one of preseason it’s going to be extremely hard to change things dramatically now. Give him two seasons then pull out the pitch forks. Prydzopolis, sonar and Smoggy 3
Smoggy Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Exactly the same idiots everywhere. Boro have started with pretty much a brand new squad this season, more new players than at any other time in its history at the commencement of a season. Boro have just been through a period of I think 5 games without a win and some idiots were already calling for Garry Monk's head, total idiots. It was always going to take time, we were never going to streak out ahead with so many changes. Now we have won two on the bounce and things look like starting to click, the idiots have gone quiet. Same the world over. wswtragic, Prydzopolis, xxBrandonxx and 4 others 7

JayZko Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 It doesn’t fill me with confidence were following in the steps of Adelaide to much...... we once had a style of play were we didn’t even need a striker to win games were free kicks and headers and wingers won us games all we needed was an Andy keogh type striker....
Jukes01 Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 I think Gombau is a pretty good choice, it could have been much worse with Okon being touted as a possible selection. In any case it might take a bit of time for Gombau to settle in, lets just hope it doesn't take as long as it took him in Adelaide. We have a decent squad this season with plenty of players who he can use in his system. The good thing is he knows the A-league and he knows plenty of players in our squad. He style is quite fluid and its not just playing through the back with build up play, he also implements that long forward diagonal pass that is also effective. Even though I know he also treasures the ball I hope he is true to his word and the team plays with a bit more pace. Nothing wrong with being a little bit more direct than we are now. SBW Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Excellent appointment. Definitely someone we need who cam bring the juniors through our system. Now i just have to wait for his "your son is a **** goalkeeper" comment to a journo tardotz, Neverbloom, Unlimited and 2 others 3 2

lloydy136 Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Will admit to being lukewarm on gombau. Reckon his sideline/press conference antics are better than his coaching and i'm not sure our players are suited to the style he played in adelaide. Will be interesting to see if he adapts or imposes. Still cautiously optimistic as i dont think he is a bad manager by any means. Certainly better than treading water like we have been last couple of weeks. Smoggy, Carns and Prydzopolis 3

matty Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 If the only thing that Gombau can add to our squad of players is his passion, then we'll go a long way this season. Welcome Josep, we're with you all the way. SomeGuy1977, hoops, tardotz and 4 others 7

Why’d he leave after winning promotion twice in a row and then getting coach of the year? And then what happened at Augsburg to get him fired within 6 months?

And then what happened at Augsburg to get him fired within 6 months? He was at Darmstadt when he won back to back promotions. They were a 3rd division club. I'm guessing Augsurg gave him a nice big contract compared to his current club (although if I'd gone back to back promotions I'd stick with the club & see what we could do, and they stayed up in their first season as well). He got 3 years & probably on a lot more than Darmstadt did. The weird thing is that the year before the club finished 12th, and when they fired Schuster they were only in 13th, only 6 months into his contract. They got a lot worse after changing managers, they were as low as 16th but scraped back up to 13th in the end. So all that chopping & changing to do basically nothing to their position. It would have been an interesting appointment. He was reportedly a very defensive minded coach (not hard to figure coming from an East German central defender), he took over Darmstadt halfway through 2012/13 when they were in last, but still would've been relegated if not for another side going into administration. DamnedUnited Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 I impatiently wanted to see the back of Foxxe but am content to allow Gombau a season to do his stuff. The final piece is in place on the pitch. Let's hit Melbourne with a storm before oh yeah fading after 70 or go figure. ..use the bench. sonar and Prydzopolis 2
WestSyd Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 I think we will be a stronger defensive unit as the teams Gombau coached at Adelaide were always tough to break down from memory. I think there will also be more purpose to our tactics, which will be of great relief. As someone said previously, Sotirio might end up knowing what he is doing on the field after all. One thing that could frustrate is if the goals don't go in. Gombau plays a very possession based game, and we won't be as direct as we have been in the past month. Hopefully he mixes up the tactics based on the game situation. Anyway, am personally happy with this appointment. Interesting and exciting times ahead. sonar and tardotz 2
