Over 150k ratings for last nights cup final. Almost 100% increase on last year.

To be honest I'd prefer we just gave Lachlan Scott a run. Keane just seems really old. Being a 'proven goalscorer' doesn't count for anything in the a-league and at 36 I don't see what Keane is going to offer for the $1m+ price tag

I'll tell you what Keano will offer. A 5 letter word starting with "G".

Spanish-speaking Fornaroli spoke at a media conference on Thursday and said he had meant to close his speech by saying the Spanish word vamos ("let's go"), but got confused in the excitement of the moment.

"I want to say vamos, nothing more, in this moment," he said. "Everyone enjoy, also. When you win the first cup for the club, it's amazing, so it's a great moment and I want to say vamos.

"I say such a different thing, but it's funny. If someone feel bad for this I say sorry, but it isn't the way I want to say vamos."

Fornaroli said it was a genuine mistake made with the emotion of the big win swirling inside him.

"In this moment it's difficult to speak, because you have the game inside," he said. "You are crazy for the moment, but I say again it's not something bad."

Fox Sports going up to $29 per month from 1st Feb.  Glad I ditched them.  They need a football only offering and drop the price for that because the substandard football offering they use to lure football only fans cost subsidises the inferior sports of NRL and AFL and their fans.

They should pay more because their sports rights are much higher.

Why are you making these changes?

To continue investing in premium programming and securing the best sports rights.

What do Sports customers get for their extra $4 per month?

2017 will see the launch of a dedicated NRL channel, ensuring Sports customers have the best choice of live sport, including every game of every round of the NRL, AFL and Super Rugby regular seasons live.

Lol.  Twats.  Given up on football and making the A-League change its game start times while investing in other sports to our detriment.

**** off Foxtel.

I'm not sure what you mean substandard football offering?

This morning I woke up to watching Bayern live, this afternoon I'll watch WSW cause I can't make the game and tonight I get to watch the El Classico.

To me football has never been covered better by Fox Sports, agree with your thoughts I would happily pay for football only at a cheaper price but $4 per month meh, so be it.

I think what was meant was that they need a football-only offer.

Foxtel Play has launched, cheapest to get sport at the moment is $35/m, going up to $39/m from February. But the Play app isn't available on a large number of devices. Would have been a good chance to offer a sport-only package at least.

Would love the see the A-League negotiate to have an app, akin to the NFL, NHL (and so on) apps that you buy a season pass: steam games live, watch full replays, highlights, etc. Price it at around $150/y and there's A LOT that would go for that. Would open it up to the non-Foxtel market too (only 30% of households have Foxtel).

We're ditching Foxtel in the new year. Sick of giving them around $400+ a year to watch the A-League.

HAL should launch it's own streaming service. I would pay for that.

Negotiating it is the hard part.

For example, if Foxtel re-sign for the rights (which they more than likely will) then they would need to agree to on-sell the content. Unless, the agreement is made by the FFA that the winning party has to allow it. So many scenarios. In the US their sports content is often split between many different companies (ABC, ESPN, CBS, etc.) and often is shared between them depending on the market it's being broadcast into.

Foxtel would also need to ensure they won't lose customers because of it, but it could also be seen as a gateway to other content. It's a tricky one to handle. The FFA would need to have the balls to make it happen. Unlikely.

To be honest I think what we'll see is the same setup next season: all games Fox, 1 game FTA. The FTA will have a mix of Friday/Saturday night games this time. Then from the season after there will be an extra game (with 2 extra teams) so 6 games on Fox, with 2 also on FTA.

Stensolt published an article saying that FFA have indicated to potential bidders that if a FTA network buys in, they'll have to play the Saturday game on their main channel.

Regarding a online 'season pass' sort of a deal, I wouldn't be surprised if fox onsell their digital rights to somebody like Optus

Yeah have heard that FTA want the Sat night fixture. Fair enough. Great way to get better exposure.

Bloody Optus again... don't mind them having rights for content (EPL, etc.) but at least let non-Optus customers have access in some way. Even if it's just through Fetch TV and the add on (which you can't add unless you're an Optus customer)... just stupid.

The Aleague doesn't have enough of a following yet to have it's own subscription service. As mentioned above, no way Fox would allow it because they'd lose too many viewers that are already scarce. The American sports can do it because they have a huge following plus a high international viewership who rely on streaming as their main source of content.

The NRL and AFL are only just starting to really offer a similar service and they're much more established/followed. I think it'll be a while before the aleague has anything similar.
