Erebus Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 haha what a fail. Seems to only get jobs where his dad is. What a waste of a career.

It is a waste of a career, I thought he was pretty decent when with us, and there was a time I thought he should have transitioned into becoming a Socceroo player with some permanence. Sadly his profi life in Deutschland didn't work out the way it could've, and perhaps he's been on a downward trajectory since. Methinks being part of the basket case that is the Nux hasn't helped either in the current context. StringerBellend and Paul01 2

Methinks being part of the basket case that is the Nux hasn't helped either in the current context. Took him nearly a season to get up to speed with us, even then he was on marquee money but largely coming off the bench. Thought he’d have a big second season but he went off to China for money to a club with form on ditching player mid contract. He’s looked good for nix this year
btron3000 Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 Idiot. Has a horror injury run which is mistreated by Swiss club, comes here and takes most of the year to get up to speed, leaves again. Then follows Pop to the worst A-league club. Classy player, another who could add something to the Socceroos, wasting his career.
Erebus Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 He had the world at his feet when he was 22 at Brisbane. But went overseas too early imo and has been on that Troisi career path ever since. Jumping around chasing glory or money or both and just hardly playing. The fact that City are talking to him is laughable too.

Considering our most celebrated current player, Aaron Mooy, did St Mirren at 21, came back here and then had 4 seasons with us and Melchester City, perhaps 25 would be a guide.
Erebus Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Go when you know you'll be playing and not warming the pine. Antonis is another one. There's a whole generation of players that have been going from Australia, to Europe, to Aus, to China, to Aus, to Middle East and back again.

Maybe it all comes down to how good their development was at junior level. Aaron Mooy might just be a late bloomer and probably didn't have the maturity or the strength of mind to make it at a younger age. If the players are good enough, regardless of age, they should probably go to Europe but should take into consideration factors like whether or not they would be expected to play, if they are going over to develop before getting their chance, how the club will help them settle etc etc. Maybe a lot of the problems rest with agents trying to make a quick dollar and getting into the ear of players when they are young and also telling their parents how they'll make a killing overseas. Aussie players, back in the day, were either overseas at a young age, playing in academies or honed their craft in the NSL and went overseas as 19-21 year olds, generally speaking. Things have changed since the 2000's, that's for sure. Edited December 21, 2017 by Jukes75 btron3000 and ManfredSchaefer 2
btron3000 Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Almost the whole Golden Generation went overseas as teenagers. It’s different for everyone. But yeah, it’s all about finding the right team. Paul01 1

They seem to be going over to Europe to be cheap squaddies who never play unless a plague of injuries strike. I think regular World Cup football also has a role to play. When the golden generation were establishing their careers, World Cup qualification was still a bit of a pipe dream, so the young guys were more prepared to work hard in the background in the hope that they’d break through eventually. Now that we are expected to qualify every Cup, players are petrified of not getting enough minutes and being left out of squads, so they keep running home again for game time. While it’s great we have a league that continues to grow and become more professional, it also carries the risk of providing a safe and warm fallback for the talented yet less driven or overly cautious players. That’s how it looks from my arm chair at least. People with actual talent and experience will no doubt have a different view.
