FCWanderers
Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas praised the announcement. “Replacing our now outdated but still much loved venue, Wanderland will be reborn and the opportunity presented to our club, our fans and our region will be huge,†said Tsatsimas. “It will give us the ability to grow as a Club and sets a platform for a number of opportunities to continue on our path to becoming a globally recognised and respected football club. “While the transformation and planning for the new stadium in Parramatta takes place there will be a period of displacement that we will have to deal with. “Over the next few months as we learn more of the Government’s timelines for work to commence on our venue we will consult with our members and supporters to help guide our decision making process on where we will play our matches while Wanderland is under construction.†It is expected that construction will begin no earlier than December 2016, meaning the upcoming A-League season won’t be effected by the proposal. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2015/09/04/wanderers-get-new-30000-seat-stadium Link to comment
Flytox
I've seen people on various forums making comments about what is needed in the stadium. One regular comment is a single tier safe standing north end. Calculating the capacity of this assuming uniform loading around the perimeter of the stadium would mean roughly 5,500 seats. This transfers into about 7,750 standing spots if safe standing is installed without an intermediate step or roughly 9,500 standing spots with an intermediate step. I think there needs to be some serious and realistic discussion amongst those of you that populate the active support area as to what capacity standing area might be needed and a co-ordinated submission made to the club and/or the Minister. Smoggy
Come on guys, you know how these things work. Parra Stadium gets knocked down to make way for the redevelopment / new stadium....... Legal wrangling / red tape commences, locals get all shitty about the new plans and the over sensitive greenies get all precious about the impact on the environment and a few bats. Result...... the Parra Stadium site remains a mud patch for between 5 - 10 year after numerous people try and resolve the issue, WSW spend the next 10 year flitting between the Riff and Campbelltown before our much overdue return to our home, to a less than promised compromise stadium. Sorry to be a negative chunt today lol This is similar to what happened to Middlesbrough and their new stadium site. Much of the promised development around the stadium made in 1993 has still not be built to this day and the stadium remains an oasis surrounded by desolate wasteland, although it is improving now. I will remain skeptical until I see the steel work going up. Edited September 4, 2015 by WSWBoro theguyyouwishyouwere, nmh94, Prydzopolis and 1 other 4 Link to comment
nmh94
Ultimately good news, even if it is a bit less than we may have wanted. 2019 is still a long way away, as many as four seasons. By that time we will be pretty desperate for it. Alexander and Prydzopolis 2 Link to comment
Prydzopolis
So the decision to spent $300m has been decided by the Premier, what does this mean? Timelines say that it will start no earlier than December 2016. What does this mean will happen in the next 10 or so months? Does this means we are restricted to 30k or does this mean we are restricted by what it will cost to build the stadium $300m? Do we get any say in the design process or will it just be decided by the government? Flytox above has suggested a submission to the club/minister, will this even be possible? It would be a disaster if they spent extra money creating footings for a 40k plus stadium but only seating for 30k, then decide to waste a **** load of money putting on a roof like AAMI essentially making it impossible to upgrade the stadium from 30k. Obviously things like safe standing or a single tier will cost extra & only with heavy lobbying will we get the things we want, otherwise if we leave it up to others then it could come without the things we want. Maybe we should get Gazmon on the case Link to comment

FCWanderers
Some questions I have; Is anyone aware of how much of the initial 29 million dollars that was provided remains after the works to the change rooms? Is the 300 million dollar commitment in addition to whatever is left of the of the 29 million dollar initial funding or have they committed to spend a total of 300 million on the new Parramatta stadium? If it is 300 million in addition to whatever left over of the 29 million will it mean that they will be able to revise upwards the projected seating capacity by a thousand or two? Do they do the design and approval process in house, within the government or are there particular companies that they tend to engage to carry out the work required? Prydzopolis 1 Link to comment
Flytox
From memory there was about $19m allocated in the State Budget for the upgrade this financial year so I assume that is still in the "bank". I would expect that the new project is all up $300m and whats left will just be rolled into the new budget item. I have heard that Hassell who were working on the upgrade has been preparing concept drawing for the new venue. That doesn't necessarily mean they will get the job. With the short time to get the job done the Govt would need to engage someone with extensive experience and capacity and although Hassell has a good reputation I am unsure of their expertise or capacity to do the job. Taurus
There are so many grey areas in the announcement that has been made today, not least of which is where the additional $1 billion plus is going to come from, to fund the projects that were mentioned in the press release today. The Government would appear to have decided not to buyout the lease at ANZ, estimated to be worth $130 million. IIRC the upgrade of any stadium within the Sydney basin, which increased the capacity beyond a certain threshold, would be likely trigger the payment of financial compensation to the company that currently owns the lease over ANZ. So much to comprehend, yet very little information has been made available to the average punter. Prydzopolis 1 Link to comment

From the Government's Media Release. “As part of this package NSW Government is negotiating to acquire leasehold management rights for Stadium Australia. Once this is finalised we will work towards one governing entity for Sydney’s stadia network.†https://www.nsw.gov.au/media-releases-premier/massive-investment-new-stadia-sydney I read a quote from Baird that said the Treasurer will announce details of funding in the next report on the budget. For some reason October sticks in my mind for when she will deliver that. Edited September 4, 2015 by Flytox Prydzopolis 1 Link to comment
Wanderer74
With this good news I think it is time to have a chuckle. This is taken from the football S*it talk Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/footballshittalk/posts/1179518408729101:0 ---- Both Western Sydney Wanderers FC and Sydney FC are set to play at bigger stadiums following an announcement by the NSW government. Sky Blues Chiefs are reportedly seething at the news, as the bigger stadium will highlight the number of fans they don't have. A-League boss Damien de Bohun says a bigger Parramatta stadium will give Police the opportunity to ban more RBB members than ever before. At the members meeting at the end of last season, JT mentioned that they would be pushing for safe standing to be apart of a new stadium but I think the government will need a bit more convincing than that. Agreed Flytox. Safe Standing a priority, the question is how to convince the State Govt that this type of Safe Standing Rail Seat is acceptable to the stadium other major tenant (ie. Rugby League fans). I'll never tried them out, but I assume they are still comfortable seating or standing. Perhaps they need to be demonstrated locally here in Australia somehow? Last year they installed some versions of the safe standing to test them out, one of the most popular versions had a key that could change it from fold out seating or folded up flat allowing room for standing two deep. Is it comfortable? Probably not but the most difficult issue was convincing the Eels to use upgrade money on a feature that they would not use. This was the main issue. Link to comment

Maybe there's a compromise that could be reached like having 1 or 2 bays behind the goals with rail seats and the rest normal seats? Who knows maybe there is other areas the both supporter groups could reach a consensus like having a single tier behind the goals. I don't imagine the Eels supporters would be against that one.
