Post and share information here on our most epic trip in the short history of WSW club:

 

Visas will be one of the biggest challenges, especially if trying to travel independently - I did this in Sep 2011 to Dammam in Saudi for Socceroos WC qualifier - thank goodness we won!

 

Most return airfares are in vicinity of $1800-$1900 (e.g. flying Qantas/Emirates or Virgin International) 

 

Club has advised they are working with a travel agent on offering packages that includes accommodation, airfares, transfers, tickets etc for around $3,500 - more details to follow soon

I am flying to the US on the following day, so I can't make it to this. Tempting fate by planning Morocco though...

 

well AUTD got into WC Championship as runner up of ACL

 

qualifying for Morocco tournament would be prob fr WSW in terms of fixture congestion fr HAL, with games already being rescheduled fr ACL final

Would love to make this one, would depend of $$$ and getting time off work.

good question

 

if taking option of being part of club's travel package, then shouldn't be a problem as they will be escorted

 

otherwise travelling independently, sadly, forget it based upon strict Saudi visa rules for entry etc

 

anyway we'll discuss/find out from club to ensure issue is covered

Update on package tours to Riyadh:

 

Contact with club and their travel agent over past few days reveals that they already have over 20 expressions of interest

from our fans to travel to game.

 

They are trying to organise options that include all inclusive (flights, hotels, transfers, tickets, etc) and also land based only
for those that want to book their own flights.

 

Most likely scenario is using Dubai for a base a few days (with some local excursions) then flying into Riyadh on match day, staying overnight after game and then flying back to Australia via Dubai - Emirates is likely to be the preferred airline.

 

There's much to organise and lock in inclusing visas arrangements, so follow up announcement by club on details of tours and options likely towards to end of this coming week.

 

Will also update on this thread as more info comes to hand.

In the meantime, already over 40 WSW fans have expressed firm interest with club & their travel agent for this trip.

Thankyou for your patience, the Emirates airfares are through and we are ready to go.

Please note, due to such short notice the Airfare/ Package will be instant purchase and first in best dressed.

Some of these prices may vary, subject to certain seat classes, selling out.

Ian “Dicko†Dickson and Shaun Mielekamp will be your Hosts at the game.

We will lock your seats in, on the day of payment.

Ladies : We are still awaiting instructions from the Saudi Embassy re dress requirements and attendance at the game as a group

[should be all good] but we will have final advice tomorrow morning and advise you individually.

Visa costs will be at your expense and we are waiting for the Saudi Government to supply us with a †letter of Invitation†on your behalf.

Please note Saudi visa’s will be more expensive than normal visas and we will be advised on receipt of the  Invitation Letter as to the exact cost.

Coach transfers from your Hotel to the game and return will be complimentary.

·         At least 6 months validity on your passport from date of return to Australia

·         2 opposing blank pages in your passport

·         2 passport sized photos with a white background and must have been taken within past 6 months

·         Visa application ( this will be provided once “ letter of invitation “ has been received

In addition to above land based tour options, they'll be an additional one for staying only in hotels in Riyadh, so no stopover in and day trips in Dubai

 

I've booked my own flights (Qantas/Emirates), along with Luke, and taking such land options in Riyadh only

I'm really cutting it fine, I'm waiting for my new drivers license to come in the mail, then I have to order a priority for my birth certificate, then apply for the passport urgently and pay for the trip...

you need to allow up to 10 days for Saudi visa approval after you lodged passport via club's travel agent

The travel agent has got my details so they can start the visa process and I'm just stressfully waiting on my passport situation

Cut off for anyone keen to join and book on to supporters tour to Riyadh is tomorrow (Friday morning 17th) at the very latest via

All paperwork for visas as a group is being lodged by first thing Monday

Any idea how many actually going? I'm still keen but if there are only a handful, I'm not sure I can carry on the full RBB act for 90 minutes (I'm not as young as I used to be and I usually sit in the stands, while watching and enjoying the RBB. Did go to the Ulsan game and enjoyed the company of 21 others though.)

For me it's the cash, realistically I can't afford to go even with just the basic package (stripped back to flights, accomodation, game & visa's) which is just marginally cheaper than main packages that Wanderland travel are offering but yeh it's sort of one of those things that may not happen for a very long time!! So it may be money very well spent for a once in a life time trip.

 

I was told today was the cut off to which Wanderland travel need to know that you're going to make the journey or not in order to organise visa's. I just can't do it :(

there's been a large drop off, once travel costs, visas, restrictions etc have been factored in

 

so now 13 booked as confirmed

 

however, I'm aware of others that are organising travel etc independently inc a couple of London based fans

I'm in limbo, my info is in but its not my passport, they have my drivers license info as I receive my passport on Monday..

 

It's literally a glimmer of hope if they accept it
