World Cup 2014 Thread

I think Uruguay will give it an almighty shake. Have match winners in Suarez & Cavani & strong leaders at the back such as Godin.

Went deep last world cup & have a historic prestige in the competition. As others have said i think the winner may come from South America, but not be Brazil.

Its interesting how when you look at their squad its obvious how strong they are defensively & how relatively poor they are up front.

I think they will lose in the semi's.

At least this time there is absolutely no expectation from an England point of view. Usually the English media and fans get in an unrealistic frenzy. This time nothing is expected at all, can't see hem getting out of the group stage and can see them losing  at lease 2 of the group stage games.

There's no wonder kid this time giving them all itchy bums. Just a bunch of jaded professionals in desperate need of a holiday. Expect them to make the semis without expectation then play rubbish when the press climbs back on board and overhypes them again. Poor pale bastards

Winner will be from South America for sure and I can't go past Brazil, they will win it,

But the following will all have a good tournament -

  • Argentina
  • Chile
  • Uruguay
  • Spain
  • Germany (NEVER write off the Germans, you do so at your peril)

Big flops / shouldn't have bothered

  • England (could potentially go home without a win)
  • Netherlands (past their best and all the hype from the last world cup)

The outside punts

  • France
  • Italy
  • Belgium (I REALLY like Belgium actually, they play some great football)

Is anyone in participating in a Wanderers + (family + friends) tipping comp for the World Cup?

Maybe $20 bucks buy in to make it interesting.

I couldn't see a separate thread discussing travel to the World Cup, so I'll ask it here...

Is anyone from this forum going to the World Cup?

I'm going with The Fanatics and I was hoping that there would be a few fellow Wanderers among the 1,500 or so fans on this tour following the Socceroos where they play during the group stage.

If you're going, let's connect and make yourselves known to me - send me a PM.

I reckon the Belgian Beer Cafes will be a top place to be this world cup as I rate Belgium very highly and could go a long way! Hope they get involved.

For those interested in the games of Greece the Enmore Theatre is also putting those on its big screen, 15/20/25 June versus Colombia/Japan/Ivory Coast.

And Australia v. Netherlands is on down the road at the Factory Theatre.

i remember watching the euro 2004 here, that place lit up literally, flares galore, and then the final on the streets of Brighton with the live screens and Paschalidis as host, flares, fireworks, burnt plasmas and lots of fun all night

I was thinking the same thing.  Anyone know a good tipping site doing the world cup.  Fox Sports haven't got one, and I have checked out Oztips and footytips.com.au, but both look to be fairly ordinary.

Any ideas on places out west that will show the games? Kick off times are **** for us. If all else fails, it'll be a trip to the casino to watch England do what they do best - lose on penos.

marconi will show all matches, they always do
