We bloody need something in D..we have been awful..7 goals in two games..

Season 1 it took until round 8 to concede 7 goals, season 2 it was round 9..

We miss the big man clearly..

Popa is known for his rotation time to rotate Spira in

If anyone can walk back into a match of this importance it would be him as unlikely as Popa is to do it

Mainly yes if he has trained, match fit and Tony picks him, need defensive anchors since the last 2 games have been shockers for the backs.

hope he plays, we need Spira to give our defense confidence & a calming influence

Spira played in a youth squad trial last weekend.

Very similar preparation to that which saw Popa throw him in against Roar in round 5 or 6 last season.

I'm tipping he replaces BH who cramped badly last week & needs a rest.

Yes, he's been training for at least 6 weeks.

IMO playing him tomorrow night has always been the plan.

This is our GF for 2014.

I'm guessing they will start him?

Easier to pull him off if needed rather than subbing then having to sub again.

Hopefully he will just pick up from where he left off and having topor next to him should give him confidence

I doubt we'd play a CB that isn't in for the 90mins. We never have a CB on the bench.

Yeah true but my thoughts were if needed, larocca back and the likes of trifiro in

If he is not at 90 min yet then no ... But if he is he would have to be in

Yeah if Spira can't play the 90 either La Rocca will drop back or maybe Cole drop to fullback and Golec move into the centre. I doubt Popa would play Spira unless he could play the whole match but if he can then I agree, get him in there.

Wasn't it Melbourne heart? When cole scored and WSW won 1-0?

When everyone lost their sh1t that Meggsy was dropped for spira?

6 outfield players & 1 GK on the bench for ACL games.

Maybe, it matters little.

I recall watching Spira play about 60 mins at both DM & CB in a youth league game at Marconi the week prior.

Just goes to show Popa is always thinking of his potential options.

For the brief time he was on last night Spira played very nicely thank you very much. Interestingly enough I think he was brought on in that CDM role we've often talked about, with Popa leaving Hamill in place. He obviously felt comfortable with our back central pairing and wanted Spira to link up more between them and Tomi.

Have to think by next week he'll be ready for more time on the park. Question is where does he slot in?

it's a good question

where? not sure, though obvious either central defence or playing just in front as defensive midfielder

bottom line is I believe we need Spira to start in the second leg

he's was on the few WSW players that has played in conditions of Gulf region inc for big pressures games for Socceroos in WC quals

his cameo last night was impressive - head up, ball at his feet - so technically gifted for an Aussie defender
