Wanderers Set For Indonesian Pre-Season Tournament?

Reports have surfaced that the Western Sydney Wanderers are set to play in the Menpora Cup 2013.

The details have come from an Arema FC supporters website as well as other Indonesia sources.

If true, the Wanderers will play in Group B of this Indonesian pre-season competition against Indonesian Super League sides Arema FC and Persipura Jayapura as well as the Myanmar Under 23 side as Myanmar prepares to host the 2013 Southeast Asian Games.

Adelaide United will be involved in the competition, in Group A alongside Persib Bandurg, Sriwijaya FC and the Indonesian Under 23 side.

Group Stage matches are to be played between the 12th and 16th of September. Group A will be hosted by Arema FC at Kanjuruhan Stadium and Group B by Persib Bandurg.

The top team in each group will progress to the final to be held at Arema's Kanjuruhan Stadium on the 20th of September.

The matches will be a month before the start of the A-League season.

I have requested clarification from the club and will update this news article when further details or confirmation comes to hand.

Update: I have received confirmation that the club will not be participating in the competition.

wasnt ccm suppose to be in this comp?

On my jaunt through Indonesian google, I found references to Brisbane and CCM being involved, but the two most recent pieces of information, from the Arema FC supporter site and the Persipura facebook page both have us and Adelaide.

Adelaide taking on Persib would be great. Sergio has been ripping up the ISL playing for Persib.

WSW playing the top two teams in the comp would be a very good warm up for the ACL.

i love it - but it gonna be next to impossible to catch the games which will suck balls

hopefully they will be broadcast by foxtel or sbs so we can at least get together and watch the matches live at our fav venues. Although with time difference might be tricky. Not sure of time difference between sydney and indo.

I doubt it. It would be unprecedented.

I think we'll have to get by with updates from the club etc.
