Council Jumped The Gun: Fox

A source from the Fox network has claimed that the live site was never going to go ahead.

In light of the fans response to the canning of the Parramatta derby live site, a source from the Fox Network has spoken exclusively to WestSydneyFootball.com in order to clear the water.

“Parra[matta] Council jumped the gun bigtime†the source revealed, “They got behind the idea and made it public without working out who would foot the 100k bill.â€

The alleged $100,000 bill has not been confirmed anywhere else, however our source tells us this was the logistics of organising such an event.

“Regardless of the feed being provided or not, someone has to pay the 100k.â€

WestSydneyFootball have tried to confirm the alleged costs of the event, however they all fall variably below Fox’s estimates.

The club was allegedly approached by the council to foot the bill.

Deputy Lord Mayor Steven Issa tweeted this morning that the council would make comment after the season.

“The focus should be on WSW, derby, and finals! Council continue to support the WSWâ€.

Football fans nationwide are still reveling in red-and-black takeover in Parramatta City Centre, with pictures circulating all over twitter. Parramatta Council have been praised in their support for the league leaders as of late, and it is one of the first times Parramatta Eels banners have been taken down for another team in the city centre.

Hahaha... The council thought the "Live Site Gnomes" we going to come and set-up the big screen and organise refreshments for all...

Fox Sports could easily make a statement about the live feed being avaiable. The ball would then be in the Council's "court", to organise the live sites.

At the end of the day, there is no shortage of places to watch the match from anyway...

As posted in another thread:

A councillor made a snap decision to get a vote of support from the rest of Council for a live site. That's fine. I admire his passion for our club. It wasn't an attempt to gain popularity. His passion for our club is genuine.

But it appears that the vote was taken before some of the critical groundwork/research was done (i.e. find out how much the live site would cost (and who would pay for it), contact FoxSports and get their permission, book Prince Alfred Park for the date of the match). It looks like it was only after Council voted in support that much of this research was done.

The sad thing is that now everyone is bagging Fox, who have been given all the blame for this. The fans had their hopes raised, but now dashed. All this could have been avoided if all involved in the decision were first better informed, and that any announcements were kept in-house before being made public

im sure the council could of fitted the bill how much ppl going to the match 20 000 at least we all put in $5 each theres your $100 000 bill foxtel. If only half of that want to chip in then the 10 000 wsw fans would put in $10 each. Anyways thats between the council and foxtel just means more business for the woolie who should invest in a larger screen next season.

not going to be able to swing a smurf at the woolie it will be that chockers

A smurf throwing contest, would be good halftime entertainment...

Fuk me! Split the bill you numbnuts! Fox, Council, FFA and both Clubs. Get sponsors on board. Approach Coke, Nike etc etc. I'd have this shindig up in 2 hours if I had all there bloody contacts!

Seems to be more of a case of not wanting to do it rather than not being able to do it.

Gargemel hates them as much as we do. I'm sure he will be in for smurf throwing.

Why on earth do you guys always manage to severely derail serious threads...haha

Just to clear this up once and for all, below is the email exchange I had with Steven Issa this morning. Church St will NOT be closed this Saturday.

Hi Steven,

Wow! Church Street looks amazing mate. So excited for this weekend.

There is some confusion over arrangements for the march. Some of our guys are insisting that Church St will be closed but as far as I'm aware the march will be on the footpath as usual. Can you please confirm what the arrangement is?

Hi John

The march for the derby should be on the footpath. For the home final we have agreed to close to Church St. I have confirmed this with Supt. Redfern. Sorry about the confusion.

Cheers

well gives the council time hopefully for the home final for a chance at a live venue as the same thing is going to happen finals series.match will sell out quickly, thanks to scalpers tickets will be ridiculously oversold at 10 times face value and many wsw fans will miss out being at wanderland

THIS. FOX and Parra Council will blame each other all week and not get it done. If they really wanted to do it, it could be done by the end of the day. It would actually mean working together and not being fuksticks, so I'm not holding my breath that it will happen....

ROFL!!

Good find Turner, the truth at last!

Hahaha... It's likes he's had an epiphany...

Now we're back on topic.... Are we seriously sticking to the footpath for the Derby march? This needs to be resolved...

The Council have not made the road available for march this weekend, I'm assuming not enough time was made for the Police sign off on said agreement, however thats just a stab in the dark I haven't looked into it.

Surely Church Street should be closed for the march. Thousands of people would join it.

On a Saturday night with KO being 7:45pm, the march would start around 6-6:15pm? Peak hour for people out eating etc..

Well they're stomachs are not as important as us going on the march that gives us the premiership.

LOL so true!

There are other ways to legally get a road closure instead of getting Council to do it.

The point you make about the timing is certainly valid, but will it really have that big an affect? I don't think closing those 2 blocks of Church St for half an hour, will matter a great deal. Let's face it, it's more pedestrian traffic anyway.

I'm starting to get sick of commenting on this. Closing Church St for the Derby was NEVER on the agenda. Any reference to street closures have been for a home final (this was discussed with the Police back in November). Whats happened here is rumor building on wishful thinking and taking on a life of it's own.

I could detail what and who is involved in getting the main street of Parramatta closed on a Saturday night but I'd still be typing this time next week.
