luisenrique Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Yeah, the other day I was thinking (not that I'm getting ahead of myself), that if we win this year we should do the chant at some point in the celebrations. wendybr and Prydzopolis 2
hawks2767 Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I remember we did the chant at the airport when we were waiting for the team. Some poor guy who stepped off a plane has a few hundred people chanting at him & has no idea why Alexander, Unlimited, GunnerWanderer and 2 others 5

teddies Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I hope he can be our club ambassador for our WSW Japanese fans. The Japanese love him I was wearing my shinji jersey in hawaii and all the japanese were staring and commenting and gesturing to me about the name on the back and giving me thumbs up... I like to think it was because of my rugged good looks.. but whatevs. Prydzopolis, Unlimited, wendybr and 4 others 7

ManfredSchaefer Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 For those of you with an academic bent ("An academic bent what?" I hear you ask) here is a good article from a couple of WSU academics on Shinji's impact as an Asian sports star in western Sydney. https://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/WYZJ9QPBYTPCSZNNPBAE/full?target=10.1080/09523367.2019.1657841 I don't know anything about McDonald but the other author of the paper, Jorge Knijik is a very good bloke and has a real love of sokkah & the Wanderers https://twitter.com/JorgeKni LeeMarvin, sonar and Prydzopolis 3

Burztur Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Best 'marquee' for any HAL team imo Edinburgh, sonar and Prydzopolis 3
Carns Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Broich was arguably better as far as impact on the football pitch (long term), Shinji is an absolute legend though and we were very lucky to get him. sonar, Prydzopolis, wendybr and 1 other 4
Burztur Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Broich definitely stuck around and was great for Brisbane but he dived too much and the refs fell for it more often than not - imo Prydzopolis 1
Carns Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Unfortunately, diving is part of the game (I agree that it is not a good part of the game). But Broich's impact on the Roar, and the overall league, was arguably greater than Tensai. Roar (led by Broich and Ange) revolutionised the league. The number of trophies shows this. Ono arguably did too (but over a shorter period of time). If we'd have come into the league earlier, or acquired Shinji at a younger age, he would've easily been more effective, overall. Prydzopolis and wendybr 2
ItchyNek Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Oh Shinji, our wandering Japanese samurai how we miss you! Definitely the best we have ever had and the club needs to find another one like him for next season if we want to be a force to be feared again. Prydzopolis, tardotz, sonar and 2 others 5
pseudonym Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Shinji Ono announces his retirement Carns, SBW, ItchyNek and 10 others 13
Carns Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Arigato, Tensai. We were so lucky to have him, a gentleman and an amazing player. BoyFromTheWest, Edinburgh, Sithslayer1991 and 6 others 9
Sithslayer1991 Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Lets be honest people we have never had a better player then Tensai. Absolute boss of a player. wendybr, MathyouWSW, BoyFromTheWest and 2 others 5
