Very disappointed that Shinji will be leaving the club, particularly given that it seems he wanted to stay on with us. He has been in every sense the ultimate professional and club man, and will forever be a Wanderers legend. His farewell will be bittersweet; while it will be sad to seem him play his last game in the red and black, I'm sure the occasion will truly be something to behold.

BANZAI SHINJI!!!     :flag:

In a world where many quality footballers become money hungry grubs it is amazing to see a TRULY professional player grace our league and particularly play for our club. Im sure we will all miss Shinji particularly those of us who are disillusioned at how this all came to pass.. but onwards and upwards. No one player is bigger than the club and id be keen to see who we bring in next. but if he proves to be even half the player and person Shinji is I will be pleased.

Up the mighty wanderers!

Should be mentioned that Shinji left Bochum after about 2 years, similar time to what he's been here, to go back to Japan to be with his family. So I find it hard to believe being with his family hasn't played a part in his decision, he is only human after all.

Maybe perhaps the club don't feel they can get regular game time out of him in the seasons to come? Like Gallas for instance, or Engelaar with injuries and stuff...

dunno

but shinji was very, very good for us

...in the same way that Mufasa is only a widdle kitty cat, Wanderers are only a football club and Manfred doesn't mind a chat.

That paragraph brought a tear to my eye.

Wish he scored that bicycle kick today, I'm entirely sure Galekovic had it covered even if it was on target. But that would of been goal of the bicentennial.

Anyone else notice the amazing bit of control on the outside of the foot from a long ball last night?? Made it look toooo easy.

Class player and a class man. Would have been good to keep him around to show any young player coming through what being a professional footballer is all about.

yeah that was one of those moments when you just know we are lucky to have such a class player here. I always make sure I show my son stuff like that on the replay over and over and then make him practise outside!

The man has so much class. I absolutely adore him. The one negative thing about him though that grinds on me is his delivery from set pieces, particularly corners.  Why does he take them?  The most basic thing to do when taking a corner is to beat the first defender yet Shinji struggles with this big time, almost every time it seems.

The 2nd away game against the Victory when we had 195 corners to their zero and lost, Mooy took most of the corners and I seem to remember several finding a Wanderers player. Topor had a glaring miss from one I seem to recall.  A couple of others were perfect if one of our players decided to attack the far post.  Shinji came on in the second half in that game and reclaimed the corner duties with zero improvement.  Since then nothing has changed.

Anyhow, that's my little gripe about Shinji and surely can be fixed with a little more concentration for a man of his calibre. Like I said everything else about the man is top notch. It's an honour to watch him play.

I might just shed a tear for Shinji's eventual last home game. I hope we make a mad tifo for him

Back in form tonight. Really good to see towards the business end of the season.

Having two matches off has probably paid dividends, wonder wether he will just be an impact player on the weekend to save his energy!

They will probably start for most ACL games i think. Impact player off the bench for HAL.

He was great tonight. Makes me wonder who can replace him?

It was awesome to see when Kawasaki were shaking hands with Wanderers before kickoff, you could actually see the amount of respect Kawasaki gave Shinji.

Gave me butterflies...

We were speaking with several Japanese supporters after the game.  They are so amazed that we all love Shinji.  One, when I said that we all loved Shinji, even bowed to me.  I thought the whole game last night was played with great respect between both the players and the supporters.  We will miss Shinji Ono.

Surely we can buy out his Sapporo contract with Lederers half a billion and keep him here?

Given the fact that Shinji will be leaving us and the club announced we will go global to replace him, who would be your ideal and realistic replacement and why?

I'd love to see us get Andrea Pirlo, obviously a bit of biased as I also support Juventus but he is coming off a contract and if he does't resign one he would be a free transfer after the world cup. But I do see similarities at times between the two, both have great vision and are good at set pieces and Pirlo could probably play the role that Shinji plays for us.
