The Western Sydney Wanderers have finished their pre-season with a solid victory over the competitive Bankstown City at Jensen Park tonight, winning by 2 goal to 0 through Aaron Mooy and Tomi Juric in the first and second halves respectively.
In clear but chilly conditions the Western Sydney Wanderers dominated much of the possession and attacking impetus in the first 45 minutes. Bankstown cleared several shots off their own line with the goalkeeper not in sight, and with the break in sight Aaron Mooy scored just before half-time to make good on the Wanderers superiority. Tahj Minniecon took most of the plaudits in the first half with several lighting breaks down the right, while his wing partner Santalab caused his own share of problems on the left.
It became clear that Tony Popovic was electing to play two completely different teams in each half when he kept the first half squad on the pitch for a warm-down while his second half-squad warmed up, and Youssouf Hersi & Shinji Ono were the pick of the second half line-up. Matthew Spiranovic made his first appearance in the red & black hoops of Western Sydney, and Martin Lo once again impressed although as the game wore on he became less influential.
Bankstown had several chances to equaliser, with Jerrad Tyson coming out of his box to head clear what looked to be a simple one-on-one chance before it could develop, and then making a wonderful save at point blank range to deny Bankstown again. Just when Bankstown were pressing for an equaliser Juric ended the game as a contest with his late sliding effort.
