Wanderers Youth vs Melbourne Victory Youth 17/02/2013 3:00PM
Pup55 Posted February 17, 2013 i went to this game on Sunday afternoon. probably 500 in attendance. i was the only one who left happy tho we beat victory 4-3, and stopped them winning the Youth League title at the same time. they now play mariners next week, and basically the winner of that game wins the league. Kwabena was hacked down in the box early and Joey Gibbs scored the pen. Nick Olsen then scored from close range following a cross which he did well to contest, and then was first to the second ball to beat the onrushing keeper. Gibbs then scored his second, a tap in, after some good build up play. 3-0 at HT. Victory scored 10 mins into the second half with a shot which went in off the post. Tyson had no chance. Jason Trifiro got a well deserved goal from the edge of the box with a shot that Redhead would have saved (no offence Red). luckily for us, Tando Velaphi was in goals at the time and somehow let it through. Victory then scored in the 87th and 89th minute to make it 4-3, and they somehow came up with 5 mins injury time but we hung on. Wanderers Best were Tarek Elrich (played 90 mins at Right Back) and Trifiro who played in a holding midfield role alongside Yanni. we played the same formation as the first team, and Gibbs did a great job in the Dino position. he seems to have bulked up throughout the season, and held the ball up, and the defenders off him, quite well. Nick Olsen was also quite good. was disappointed with Kabs. he won us the first pen, and went on a couple of good runs using his pace, but numerous times he took 2-3 touches too many and was closed down, when he had team mates in better positions. he tried hard, but tried too hard in some cases. Rocky went off injured after 10 mins. he actually fouled a victory attacker, but it looked like he copped a cork to the hip in the process. he played another 5 mins and tried to run it out but he couldn't. he walked off and was chatting with the victory first team (archie, flores, rojas among others) until half time. it shouldn't be anything serious. that wins means we will finish above Sydney FC in the Youth League this season
