Wanderers Youth vs Melbourne Heart Youth 21/10/2012 3:00PM
Muser Posted October 19, 2012 Looking forward to it. Should be an interesting line-up, especially if some of the first grade boys who don't make the final squad against ESFC play so that they get some game time. The team outplayed the Mariners earlier this week (1-0 win), with the Mariners squad including Kwaznik, Hearfield, Anderson, and a couple of others from their first team squad.
efcso Posted October 19, 2012 Hell yeah! It's in the diary, I'm there. If anyone needs a lift from The Riff or somewhere along the way, let me know. Got 2 empty seats in the car.
Taurus Posted October 20, 2012 lineups? My mail is that our youth squad may include a left back and a right sided attacker from the HAL squad. Niether played in Adelaide last week.

efcso Posted October 20, 2012 I'm going. Got a couple of seats in the car if anyone still wants a lift. Gonna go down there a bit early to give the membership team a hand setting up.

efcso Posted October 22, 2012 Photos! Team Sheet! Some thoughts. I didn't see everything, as I spent a bit of the game watching through a camera lens, but these are a couple of observations. Daniel Barac (12) was one of the standout players of the game for me. Gutsy, motivated, fearless. Tahj was a little rusty at the start, but he got into it as the game progressed and made some silky runs, especially later in the second half, carving through three and four opponents at a time. Just needs to find some touch in the box to either shoot or lay it off for someone else. Kwabs didn't get a lot of joy down either side. He and Tahj swapped a few times and mixed it up a bit. Cole worked from left back and some of his runs & crosses left the Heart defence a little lost. Aaron Liddell, the second keeper, came on midway through the second half and was pretty competent. Interestingly, prior to the game, he was warming up with Tyson and having a few shots - he was on target from 10-25m about 95% of the time with some powerful shots. Final balls into the box were letting us down a bit, but there was lots of graft and solid tackling. Heart were basically fielding a full YL side, as their big boys would have been in Perth for the A-League game.
Jowel Posted October 22, 2012 I notice there's a lot of A-league squad players in that youth team sheet. How do the youth and A-league squads relate to each other? Two separate squads or are they merged somewhat? When will we know the official youth squad?
PEDRO Posted October 22, 2012 Agree with Youth Acc, A bit like watching First grade At times some good passing & build up & when you think they could score it all fizzels out to zip. With the fringe players, Tahj was the one i think deserves a go against Brisbane.
efcso Posted October 22, 2012 (edited) I notice there's a lot of A-league squad players in that youth team sheet. How do the youth and A-league squads relate to each other? Two separate squads or are they merged somewhat? When will we know the official youth squad? They're separate squads, basically. My understanding is that the NYL can play 4 over-age players (over 21?) from the first team, as a way of getting them up to match fitness. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-League_National_Youth_League#Player_regulations Kwabs is under 21 anyway, so he can play in that squad as well as 3 older players. Also, FFA match report is here: http://www.footballa...Wanderers/50909 Edited October 22, 2012 by efcso
longball Posted October 22, 2012 my observation from the game and amoung the mates that turned up: tahj and cole combined well when on the same side of the park. Must be considered close to a start this weekend. kwabs looked very ordinary and never got into the game. Needs to play a bit more simply. la roocco is either not match fit or cant speak english didnt really get involved ans combined poorely with number 8. number 8 (mcging) lost to much possession in the midle of the park and never looked to go forward. number 2, Quinn played well. we looked sharper in the second have when perkatis © (10) was pushed back to a holding mid and paric come on. gibbs never really got much ball agree barack ok with the changes made the mid way second half. But overall the team did well to keep possesion and dominated. The team looked comfortable. Heart ventured twice and scored twice with poor defending. Plenty of time to improve. Well done for your first game and hoping to be at Campbelltown with a bigger cheer sqaud.
ge0rge10 Posted October 22, 2012 I thought Jack Green at the back was our best player by a long way! Barac looked much livelier than Gibbs when he came on. Tahj was impressive once he settled and will surely look much better when he has better players around him. Cole was disappointing for me, looked off the pace at times and should've got forward a bit better. La Rocca was very disappointing, gave a lot of ball away and didn't seem interested. I thought Olsson looked very good when he came on too.
Muser Posted October 22, 2012 Good call on most points, longball. We did seem to play more of a possession game, and bearing in mind that it was played on a cow paddock where it was impossible to play the ball along the ground with any confidence, the team did settle in fairly well. They were understandably a bit 'nervy' to begin with - first game of the season, unsettled line-up etc. You could see some lack of 'knowing each other' with some lack of communication and understanding - but they'll work that out quickly enough. Some really good chances in the second half in particular, but Heart capitalised on the fewer number of opportunities they had. In general the defence worked pertty well and played it out with confidence. Not unlike the HAL team, the biggest challenge is working out what needs to happen in the front third.
papersun Posted October 22, 2012 Who made the decision to play some of the youth games at Cook Park if the pitch is so poor, ( I haven't seen it myself just going on previous reports}. There are plenty of football stadiums around Western Sydney, the youth team shouldn't be playing on poor surfaces, Gabbie stadium is one I can think of off the top of my head that could be used.

efcso Posted October 23, 2012 Glad you like them. I'll be trying to do the same thing for all of the NYL & W-League games I get to as well. There are plenty of better photographers than I at the first-team games, so I'll stick with the other teams.
longball Posted October 23, 2012 yes pitch was below average, but it looks like the next couple of games will be played at campbelltown.
