Prior to the next game, there have been two Sydney derbies played in Round 1

---

16/17 season

WSW 0 - Sydney 4

ANZ Stadium

  • Filip Holosko 51
  • Bobo 55
  • Brandon O'Neill 85
  • Alex Brosque 89

Aritz Borda (:nono:) - straight red card - 84

---

21/22 season

WSW 0 - Sydney 0

Commbank Stadium

Nothing happened - Rhys Williams had a cool beard

That 16/17 one was the big attendance one at ANZ right? God that was depressing that day. I don't know what was worse, the result on the pitch or being surrounded with dickheads who probably haven't been to an A Leauge game since. Would rather a dedicated 10k than 60k blowins.

Yes. the highest attended game in the history of the A-League or NSL. 5500+ over the 2nd placed which is the Perth vs Smurf grand final. The good ole Popovic clean out despite making the Grand Final the year before & getting rid of Alberto for Borda, Topor-Stanley for Cornthwaite, Andreu for Pinatares and Castelen for Jumpei.

All we needed from the previous year was a striker and with all that change he still didn't get one

Was that also the year of the Arnie TIFO?

Same season but that was the 2nd derby, that we won 1-0 with 45k attendance to put a stop to the invincible smurfs.

All the foreign flops dropped except for Nico Martinez starting.

The only positive night of the three years at Olympic Park.

Hope I’m proven wrong but round 1  derbies usually bore everyone to tears cause both teams are still finding their feet. Not expecting much tbh

I expect East Sydney to be better prepared, having played 2 AFC cup games. One in Sep and the other in Oct. While we've played a friendly against Wellington and an in-house game 🤷

I expect us to get spanked.

TBH so do I... There squad is more settled and looks more threatening attack wise.

Unless Staj can get real value out of Antonsson, Borello finds his 2022 form, Kraev fires (and is fit!), Mata has the legs to enable his undoubted talent to dictate games, and a couple of youngsters have breakout seasons (aka Calem Nieuwenhof), we're looking decidedly mid table...

I hope Mata can score a world in to win the game off a free kick 10 metres from from the penalty area outside Redmayne's reach

Simmons really out of favour with Staj. Fails to make the squad today and will be in the stands!

Interesting

James Temelkovski

Going to score a truckload

Setting Temelkovski up to be the next Grozos Stringer...

Also, RBB jokes aren't helpful imo

I'm looking forward to the game.
I go, with low expectation,
knowing anything could happen,
but on the law of averages,
at some stage, we're going to have an unexpected good season.

Maybe this one!

Captain of Newcastle Jets in three years? He's a decent player Grozos just took a bit longer to come through

Just helping my son finish sanding a rocking horse for painting, therapeutic just watching him......whilst cracking a coldie, put the borek in the oven then totter off down to Parra for a few more and on to the game, after the last few weeks of soaking coverage of NRL/AFL, I am now finding my buzz coming back, just do not LOSE is all I ask, wondering what sort of team is going to grace the field this season under Staj, looking forward to the game :wanderturtle:
