People are still bitching about paying to watch a football match? Seriously....

Why should Sydney United risk injuring players for a meaningless friendly when they're in a relegation battle without being financially compensated?

Massive match, should be a bumper crowd. Biggest test for us thus far. It's fantastic to play one of the all time great NSWPL clubs. The fact that our manager, staff and some players have strong links to Sydney United further adds to the occasion. I know people from my work are calling in sick just for this game so it's got status and traction for sure.

Really , this is our biggest test lol no offense to SU

Why didn't we play against bonnyrigg , they pretty much set the bench mark for the NSWPL , from the start of the season they were on the top n till the end of the season

Very dissapointed in the prices for this match. Should have been arranged pre announcement for $8 max.

Dosnt bother me to pay, cos i will.

But 1. Its a trial so its well overpriced.

2. We are trying to engage fans, and this in particular is an area of great potential. Will force a few people to not attend.

True

If you actually read what people are saying....nobody is complaining about having to pay, nobody says Sydney United shouldn't make money from the game, it's just the amount that is being charged for a trial match!

for free, $5, $10, $15... who gives a rats, no matter the price you should be out there supporting your 'club'...

if people are worried about a few extra bucks, stay home, but not just for this game, all year round. :bad:

Because they are about to get there biggest gate takings in years. Its a trial match, i paid $5 more to see everton players put there season "on the line" ahead of a premier league season.

The wsw fans like myself whom are already married to the club will all pay, tho this runs a big risk of not appealing to more fans. Its a no brainer mate, should have been a 5$ donation to sydney united. This instead is taking ridiculous advantage of the supporters with no regard to the people in the area.

But isn't that what a business does? That is, charges the maximum amount it believes it can for the product it has available. I am pretty sure that they know the attendees will pay for this one off match. There is certainly no need for SU to take a long term view or charitable position in these circumstances.

Can I ask you why you think the WSW are in existence? I don't see it being listed as a non profit organisation. Perhaps, PM Gillard can fill out the forms for WSW..............

Wow. $15!

I echo some of the sentiment here, quite pricey for a trial match. I suppose I wasn't expecting to pay more than $10 and it's a little sneeky hiding the entrance fee till the last minute.

Anyway, will be at the game with some first timers. Looking forward to an enjoyable night.

Personally, I don't understand why United are charging much more than the Blacktown City trial.

There goes our 7000 crowd.

Beretta, you state no one knows about the price and they'll find out on the night, and pay anyway. FFS man, are you serious? That's just unethical.

I don't begrudge United making money. You've all been saying how we should support the club and the KT club, which we are. I just think this is taking the piss, taking advantage of our goodwill in supporting the Wanderers.

Very disappointed with United.

The regular season is for that. I dont know whos decision it was for the price.

But both parties esspecialy wanderers should have dished out our terms for this match to go ahead.

I mean technicaly, WSW could have never played this game, resulting in no money at all ever coming to Sydney United. I meam its by all means a game for both parties to gain from. Sydney united have a chance to host WSW and make some money with a $5 entry fee, instead they completely take advantage of the locals amd the WSW supporters.

Anyway im over it now. I just hope we get a 5k plus crowd. And that we flog united! :)

I reckon the majority of people at the match will be SU supporters anyway. That is those like myself, that want to see the WSW.

I personally have no issue in paying the money. FFS, I will be paying more in tolls to get there and back, not to mention the fuel and the fact that I won't be eating at home.

You can only be disappointed if you don't think what you will see and experience is worth it. I've paid a hell of a lot more to see meaningless exhibition matches. I went there because I wanted see the players do their thing.

Anyway, each to their own. I guess $15 is a lot of money to some people.

yep. this.

can someone tell me how much SU charge for a NSWPL match?

Boban, it's not about the money per se. For us Football lovers, we'll be there. It's about taking advantage of that whilst alienating the fringers. Many families who wanted to have a look will be turned off by that. Geez, it's only a pre season friendly after all.

Mate, I'm coming from Goulburn, so no matter what it's costing me a pretty penny.

$15 is the standard NSWPL fee. But for that you get to see 2 full strength team going all out for a win.

Benched

Disco, it's $15 for a United P/L match.

dont mind the price, just hope it doesnt stop people from coming and i wish prices were advertised earlier

Well, I stand corrected. If you pay $15 to see United on any other day vs a NSWPL side, then that's a fair enough market price for a game vs A-L team... yes, seems steep. but that's a fair enough marker

Get used to the fees you girls cause you'll be paying that amount for a small coke and hot chips every time we watch wsw during the a league comp.

People crying over 15 dollars....

Should have been 15 dollars for all pre season games (against WS clubs).

I doubt that this will be our target audience for this match, especially given that it has hardly been promoted in the non football world (if I can put it that way). I reckon pre season games are always the domain of die hards and a family can get in for $30 in total as kids under 16 are free. Most would just go with their father's I reckon, so $15 for me and my 3 kids is not expensive by any stretch of the imagination. If all of my kids go, it would work out at $3.75 a head. The macca's or KFC at the end of the match will cost me a small fortune in they don't have the chevapi going.

I just don't reckon it is too much in the scheme of things and not something that would put those who wanted to go down to the match, off going. If the kids where $10 each, then yes, it can get expensive for a family watching their spending. I reckon they have got it right. They are charging the adult and encouraging you to bring your kids by not charging for them.

You want expensive. I reckon $6 for a Corona is bit of a rort, (but that's because I only drink about 4 times a year), but when its my shout, I pay it because that is the cost of having the experience of being with my mates at a club.

Benched

Fair enough.

I think most of us are looking at this by comparing it to our other trials against NSWPL opponents.

This comes across as a bit of a money grab.

As for the Corona's, yep, they are a rip, but taste nice. El cheapo version, buy some Tooheys Extra Dry and chuck a lime in. You wont know the difference.

You know what, it is a money grab. It will go to a football club with a big history and will be put toward football related things.

This is unlike all the other NSWPL clubs WSW have played so far. This club, will bring its own supporters in big numbers. That is why you expect a decent crowd.

Mate, I buy the beers for my friends. I don't like it !!!! That, and I can save the $6 by drinking water! :meep:

For the record, before anyone else chimes in with thier "its just $15, cheapos, jews" comments.

The issue being brought up is WSW being a brand spankin new club is looking to grab more and more fans support> I would have thought being the first ever season, and pre-season we would want as many people to check out what the fuss is all about in all the regions of western sydney.

And here lies the issue that a $15 entry fee will deter some locals whom arnt already a WSW or Sydney United supporter. Comprende

$15 is good value for the atmosphere and trip out to Edensor park, we will probably be outnumbered anyways by SU fans.

Boban, United's crowd sizes aren't exactly excellent. If they rock up to this game, why aren't they turning up to the season proper.

I also would say that comment is quite dismissive of Blacktown City in particular. They have a bloody long history in Football.

So, it comes back to the money grab.

It's a short term view by Sydney Utd, if someone new to the game turns up expecting to pay $5 and feels ripped off, they will be lost to the game. It's a wasted chance to expand the profile of the club and that of the beautiful game at large. Of course those of us on this forum are already hooked and will be there, unfortunately we alone are not enough to sustain and grow any club, let alone an entire league.

People who feel ripped off or conned the first time they try a product tend to not return. That's the risk you take.

Mate, I grew up as an Australian Croatian, so being a Sydney United was like going to church. It was part of my life for as long as I can remember and the club will always be the club I follow, although I am no longer an active supporter. I have made a few posts regarding this with the younger generation who still actively support SU (and participate in this forum) regarding the reasons why.

I guess the fact that I purchased a family membership should give you an idea on where I stand with WSW. I am truly excited about the potential of this club given that it cuts across so many barriers that stood in the way of club such as SU, Marconi and Olympic. There is no way I could support Marconi or Olympic if they were in the A-League and conversely I could not expect my Italian or Greek mates to support United. That is what holds back any of these clubs from truly appealing to the general public. Many of the "wogs" know Lowy's association with Sydney City "Hakoah" and still see Sydney FC (rightly or wrongly) as a reincarnation of that club. The fact that they rejected Parramatta Stadium as their home base strengthened that perception.

Just look at this forum and you get the idea of what is happening. We not only have the Cros, Greeks and Italians, we have them all, including the "skips" who have always loved the game. Tomorrow, I am going to KT's with a Skip, an Italian and a Maltese team mate (sounds like the start of a joke). All of us are going to see WSW play in what we hope will be a good atmosphere. All of us are interested in watching football played at the highest level. This team has united our interest.

So to answer your question directly. I love SU. I am excited about WSW and hope that it does everything I imagine that it can.

That being said, if the Wanderers draw old fans out of the woodwork, then that's a positive for football in general....
