    The Western Sydney Wanderers completed their pre-pre-season preparation with another solid but not exceptional 1-0 win, this time against APIA at Leichardt Oval tonight.

     

    An in-swinging corner was headed in by Topor-Stanley in the 3rd minute and it proved to be the only goal of the game. The first half squad consisted of Covic, Cole, Topor (who took the captaincy armband), La Rocca, Pasalic (on trial), Lo, Trifiro, Appiah & Kuzmanovski (on trial).

     

    Young prospect Marty Lo was given ample time to impress, and put in a solid power of work in both a defensive & attacking midfield role. As the Wanderers did not list as being on trial, this perhaps indicates that he has signed a contract with either the youth league team or as a youth first team player. Having impressed on the flanks, Steve Kuzmanovski was deployed as a striker this time around and put in a solid shift as a lone target man.

     

    The Wanderers dominated the match, with their opponents making little headway. The defensive partnership of Topor-Stanley & La Rocca looks like the go-to combination for the Wanderers upcoming FFA Cup & Asian Champions League clashes.

     

    The second half saw the introductions of Hamil, Aspor (trial) Fofanah, Bouzanis, Poljak, Saba & Golec. Saba once again impressed with his ability to dribbled through multiple defenders, while Golec took a knock late on but pulled through to the end of the match.

     

    Despite there being more planes passing overhead than goals, the work-out would likely have pleased manager Tony Popovic, another clean-sheet despite the squad rotation with new playmaker Saba coming along nicely.

     

    The Wanderers next match is the first ever FFA Cup match contested by the club, as they fly to Adelaide to take on South Australian NPL club Adelaide City at the Marsden Sports Complex on Tuesday the 12th of August with an EST kick-off time of 8pm.

    Never thought much of Trifiro, but I think hes played really well these few trial matches.

    First time seeing Saba play and I was really impressed with his touch. Plenty of elegance for our league.

    La Banda went off tonight, I love the creative different drum beats with the chants.

     

    Was happy that the 'Heaven' chant got a run tonight, though it needs more Sholololo... Not shalala.

    Bridge MIA 2 weeks in a row now. Is he injured?

     

    Cortisone injection in an ankle I believe, last week.

     

    He had his kit with him tonight but wasn't risked.

    I'm 99.999% certain he's not in the ACL squad so won't be rushed.

     

     

    Before you ask Santa has an eye injury.

    I'll try & speak to him tomorrow.

     

    Gol Gol is back running & his knee is coming along as well as can be expected. 

    He hasn't tested it with sideways movement or kicking a ball etc. as yet.

    He's unlikely to play for at least another 3 months.

     

    Spira operation was necessary clean up rather than structural & he was there but walking with the aid of metal crutches (3/4 normal size) if you know what I mean.

    They seemed to employ different tactics of crowd control though , including hiring a mum who looked disapprovingly at everything we did and a dad who looked miserable under his beanie a real "dont make me get out of my chair" type of attitude.

    In the end, one of the security guys (or whatever he was) decided that after listening to the RBB for a whole match he needed to take a photo of everyone. That noise aint happening at a Tigers match, buddy.

      Based on the formatting im going to assume this is a new chant for the RBB. Its a little wordy but I like the message. Can someone more musically gifted than I put this to a tune?

      And oh yeah...my wife had a season ticket first few seasons so 4 of us went, but she didn't go to so many, doesn't really follow sport tbh. Happy times sat down in the south end at Parra watching my son messing about on the grass bank with other kids. Doing the ice cream run for the family. Wish I was back there.

      At the start it was me, my son and my father in law going to every home game plus all NSW away games. My father in laws last game was that Brissy SF at Parra, not been back since. He asks how we are going but doesn’t watch on tv either these days, cant see him coming back again. My son is 17 now and I reckon his generation has been hit hard you know. 10 to 12 years is very different when you are 17 as when you were aged 5 to 7 seems l way back, you cant even remember much of it. It’s not like a 46 year old looking back to 36. He shows intermittent interest is the best way to describe it, if he comes in and I have a game on the tv he will stand for a few mins and watch it and then say he has something to do. If I ask if he want to come to a game it gets a ‘hmmm maybe…depends….’…..I have got to the point I can’t be arsed going to game if he doesn’t tbh.. We will both be at the derby next week anyway.
